Lake Effect SNOW...YEAH!

We went from virtually no snow to about 8 inches last night. A Lake Effect Snow Band started muscling its way north, and dumped quite a bit of snow on us. Of course, I loved it! I had all of the blinds pulled up so that I could see it while we decorated for Christmas. This did not make my wife happy, as others could readily see into our house. It reminded me of when we were little and my father would leave the blinds open around the house, prompting my mother to say "all of Kannapolis" could see in. (Though the phrase eventually evolved into just: "All of Kannapolis, Mike, All of Kannapolis!) I felt like telling Liz that "All of Amherst" could see in our house, but I didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

Also of note in one of the snow pictures is the driveway that I shoveled myself. It took over half an hour, and God bless the man next door for doing the sidewalk. (He must have seen the snow induced asthma attack I was having at the bottom of the driveway.) I have determined that it would be in our best interest to hire someone to clear our driveway. I like the snow, but not enough to shovel it anymore!

Additionally, I included some pictures of Siobhan from Thanksgiving. I don't know why we even bothered with Turkey, since she's such a HAM!

I'm Dreaming...Of A White Thanksgiving...

Just like the ones I've never known...

We've got an inch or so on the ground with a couple more inches forecast...twenty minutes south of us is getting two feet of Lake Effect snow today. I doubt, though, that they are anywhere near as thankful as I would be were I the one getting that much!

We're having dinner at Maureen's today...she's making Macaroni and Cheese and bought a Pumpkin cheesecake for me...bless her.

I'm starting the day by working on my last term paper of the semester, and making deviled eggs. We're picking Barb and Doug up later and heading over, and then decorating for Christmas tonight and watching Christmas movies. (Unless we need a nap!)

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

My First Snow Related Injury...

I guess this was inevitable.

Last night, during LOST, it started snowing. The messages across the screen were saying "Lake Effect Snow - 2 to 4 inches." I was very excited, but after LOST, went to bed. I dreamed about the snow, and woke up 15 minutes before the alarm went off, so that I could check to see how much snow we actually got.

The house was completely dark.

I got out of bed and walked into the den, completely blind--I could see nothing. In my excitement, I forgot that the large wooden tray that usually sits on our ottoman had been placed in the floor. When I kicked it, I was startled, and felt myself falter. To regain my balance, I stepped fully in the tray into a small dish of M&M's. Unfortunately, the tray nor the dish helped in regaining my footing and I went down like Ollie North in the Iran Contra trial.

I first landed on my right hand and knee, while my left side ricocheted off the couch into the ottoman. It was Pinball like affect on my journey to the floor. I yelled, woke Liz up, and stayed on the floor for a moment. (I hadn't yet seen the snow.) Liz came to check on me, I got up, ticked off that I had fallen, and reached across the couch to part the blinds, revealing:

Absolutely not a damn thing.
The little bit of snow we got last night was it, and even that had melted. There wasn't a flake to be seen. However, 2 miles south got 6 inches. Where is the fairness in that?

Needless to say, this all boils down to me having a snow-related injury, even though there wasn't actually any snow. I'm very sore now, and the Tylenol is wearing off. I may need to call in sick tomorrow, depending on how much sympathy I get later this evening.

TTFN,

-Mike

The Snow is Finally Falling!

We're getting just a little bit but it still makes me happy!

Our 5th Anniversary!

Yesterday was our 5th Anniversary, and we celebrated at the Seneca Niagara Casino at Niagara Falls. We had dinner at the casino buffet...it was a Meat Paradise! I had prime rib, fish, chicken, crab cakes, and meatloaf...and not much else. We had a nice room at the Holiday Inn next to the casino, but the bed was like a slab of granite...we came home and slept today. The new hotel beside the casino is due to open in December, and hopefully, we'll be able to stay there next time! On the way home this morning, we stopped at Maureen's to see the baby, who is standing up by herself now, and moments away from walking on her own! Pictures below:

An update...

We DID have some snow! About 25 flakes. It was snowing on the way home from work, and it got very dark...we've been having lots of storms lately. It didn't accumulate, but there's more in the forecast for next week...maybe it will then!

A Flake?

A late autumn haiku:

Riding down the road
A flake or two hits the car
Mood is excitement.

They are calling for snow showers mixed with rain today...I can't wait! (Though, right now...there's not a cloud in the sky...I don't like being teased!)

Guess which picture...

I love my computer. One of these pictures is the actual picture, the others had their colors manipulated. I just thought it was cool.

Happy November!

We had quite a few trick-or-treaters last night. We turned the lights off around 8:30 and started heading toward bed. At 9:45, with the house completely dark, the doorbell started ringing again, and when I answered the door, the guys standing there had to have been like "25." I told them we were out of candy. Then, ten minutes later, 2 older girls showed up, one of which was spilling out of her costume, and again I said we were out of candy. I should have given them a can of potted meat or something...they all looked hungry. (and inebriated.)
